Know Thyself is a year-long online shamanic course for women, unfolding across five offerings. Each offering is a one-hour session followed by a longer 60–90 minute follow-up call, giving you the space and time to unpack and process what arose for you.
Through meditation, shamanic journeying, ritual and the medicine of story, you’re invited into a liminal space where ancient divine feminine wisdom and modern psychotherapy meet, complement each other and dance together. You’re held throughout by Karen Brewster, an experienced, qualified psychotherapist.
Each offering begins by settling and grounding, so that you arrive fully in your body and in the space. From there you’re guided, to the sound of a shamanic drum or rattle, into a liminal place: somewhere between waking and dreaming, where the wise woman within you can be heard.
In that place you’ll work with breath, movement, deep meditation and the medicine of story. Myth, fairy tale, legend and poetry are offered not as lessons but as mirrors, so you can ask, “Who am I, and where am I, in this story?” Your ally throughout is the ancient of ancients, Old Mother Dark, who wraps you in her soft dark velvet cloak and holds you while you work.
A few weeks later, the follow-up call gives you time to share and make sense of what has started to unfold. In a group, this becomes a small, closed women’s circle where you bear witness to and support one another. One-to-one, the whole call is yours.
Because Karen is a practising psychotherapist, this spiritual exploration is grounded, anchored and safe. It walks alongside therapy and never replaces it.
The year moves from what slumbers to soul connection. Each offering carries its own ancient symbol of the divine feminine, a quiet guide for the work it holds, and each builds on the one before.
The horizontal line
What slumbers, waiting to be woken?
The year begins with what lies sleeping: the passions, aspirations and dreams you may have put aside. Guided by the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty, you’re invited to connect with your internal energies of patience, love, grace and curiosity, and to notice what longs to be re-remembered.
Each of us has a weave, and over time threads can knot or fall away. This offering begins the gentle work of tending yours. Nothing is forced.
The moon
What do you see, but don’t want to see?
This offering invites you to dive deep into the unconscious, guided by the inner archetypes (warrior, hero, king and knight) who have the courage to go where we’d rather not look.
What do you know but don’t want to know? What do you hear but don’t want to hear? If you choose to, you’ll be invited to bring your own inner light to what’s hidden in the dark corners, and to meet it with compassion.
The spiral
What’s ready to be let go?
The spiral is one of the oldest symbols of the divine feminine: the endless turning of cycles, of life, death and rebirth. Like the ouroboros, the serpent that swallows its own tail, it reminds us that every ending carries a beginning.
This offering asks what no longer serves you, what drains your energy and what is ready to die: an attitude, a belief, an old narrative. It’s often here, at the heart of the year, that women begin to feel a real internal shift.
Venus
Where do your strength and your softness meet?
Power & Grace invites your personal authority and agency to dance with your empathy, love and light. So often we’re taught to choose between being strong and being soft. This offering asks what happens when you stop choosing.
Drawing on your own story, and on how you have grown and evolved as a woman, you’re invited to feel and experience that dance for yourself.
The circle
Your soul calls you home
The final offering asks one question: what nourishes your soul?
This is a very sacred journey. It draws on everything you’ve come to know over the year through self-reflection, remembering and reconnection. The most important relationship you have is the one with yourself, and it shapes every other relationship in your life. Soul Journey is where you come home to it.
This course is for women who feel a pull, a longing or a whisper for a deeper connection with themselves and with the wise women, crones and holders of ancient feminine wisdom who came before. It may be right for you if:
You don’t need any experience of meditation or shamanic journeying, only a willingness to stay curious. You are your own spiritual authority. You do need to feel grounded before you begin, and if you’re not sure, Karen is happy to talk it through with you first. For some women, a course of psychotherapy at Finding You is the better first step.
Every option includes the one-hour session and the 60–90 minute follow-up call for each offering.
